Get to know us
At the Central Appalachia Weather Authority (CAWA), we are more than just a weather organization. We are a community-driven force dedicated to protecting lives, property, and livelihoods across the rugged and weather-prone landscapes of Central Appalachia. Our mission is to bridge the gap between official meteorological agencies, such as the National Weather Service, and the people who need that information most, our neighbors.
We provide real-time, ground-verified weather coverage by combining advanced technology with the power of an extensive Affiliate Storm Chaser Network. These independent chasers retain their own unique brands while contributing live streams, on-the-ground observations, and critical data that help us deliver accurate and timely alerts.
But our work does not stop when the storm passes. We deploy disaster relief teams to provide essential supplies, cook meals, offer comfort and emotional support, and assist with recovery efforts, whether it is clearing debris, repairing homes, or helping families navigate assistance programs.
CAWA is built on collaboration, compassion, and commitment. By uniting storm chasers, weather experts, volunteers, and community partners, we ensure that the people of North Central Appalachia are informed, prepared, and supported before, during, and after severe weather events.
Real Storms. Real Voices. Real Help.
Our mission
To provide real-time, ground-verified weather intelligence and support services across Central Appalachia by uniting storm chasers, filling communication gaps between official agencies and the public, and delivering compassionate disaster relief and recovery assistance.
Our vision
Our vision is to build a safer, more resilient Central Appalachia where no community is left behind when severe weather strikes. We recognize that throughout Appalachia, many communities face high poverty rates, limited infrastructure, and scarce resources, making them especially vulnerable to disaster impacts. In these areas, recovery is often slow, and basic needs can go unmet for days or weeks. We aim to be a lifeline, delivering swift, effective disaster relief to those in need, fostering stronger preparedness, and creating a network of support that ensures even the most remote towns receive help, hope, and the tools to rebuild.
